Bad Ram Slot
Posted : admin On 4/4/2022Hey guys, I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2012 and it looks like the bottom ram slot stopped working. In order to get the Macbook Pro to stop crashing I had to take the ram out of the bottom slot. I was previously running 2x4gb rams and I've just recently upgraded to 1x8gb Ram. I was wondering if. SuperUser reader Totymedli is curious about the color coding of RAM slots: I have always seen that the motherboard RAM slots are colored in pairs, but never knew what it meant. I just put the 2 RAM in, and after a few tries it always worked. But after I tried to install a third one it always throws me a blue screen of death. After switching around the RAM, it turns out that if either stick is in that second slot (second from the top in the photo), the system won't boot. I get that 3-second beep. I air cleaned the slot and I also popped the battery to clear the CMOS(?) just in case that was messing with the slot. I have 1 RAM of 4 GB. I put it in another RAM slot in my motherboard, and then the PC started. It's not the RAM socket that has the problem, because I had the same problem again. I again changed the RAM and put it in another slot. (Sometimes it didn't work. Then I changed slot. But, usually, it works after the second time.

To check the new RAM wasn't defective, I tried it in slot 1, a known good slot. All 4 sticks of RAM worked in slot 1, so the RAM wasn't faulty. All 4 sticks work in every slot except slot 2 (the first black RAM slot). If I put any stick in slot 2 - old or new - the PC is dead, it won't even boot to the BIOS.
